Anxiety isn’t just a feeling - it’s the desperate urge to escape one. It’s the racing heartbeat that comes not from fear itself, but from the fear of facing it. It’s the restless mind, not because of the present moment, but because of the past it won’t revisit or the future it can’t control.
Anxiety is the body’s rebellion against emotions it hasn’t made peace with. It’s the instinct to flee, not from danger, but from the vulnerability of feeling too deeply. It’s the avoidance of pain, hurt, or uncertainty, wrapping itself in worry as a shield.
But running from a feeling doesn’t make it disappear; it only tightens the grip of anxiety. The only way out is through - through the discomfort, through the fear, through the tears.
Only by facing the emotion we’re running from can we find the calm we’re longing for.
So when anxiety tightens its hold, ask yourself: What am I truly running from? What feeling am I too afraid to feel? Sometimes, the bravest thing we can do is stop running and allow ourselves to simply feel.
